Salisbury Steak

  • 1-1/2 lbs ground beef (80% or 73% lean recommended)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (yellow sweet recommended)
  • 2 (0.87 oz/24 g) packages McCormick Brown Gravy Mix
  • 2 to 2-1/2 cups water
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Hand mix Worchestershire sauce into ground beef. Form into patties; salt/pepper to taste. (I recommend at least a little salt.)
  2. In a medium or large skillet, cook patties to rare or medium rare. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add onions to meat drippings and caramelize. (I recommend adding a pinch or two of salt and black pepper to the onions.)
  4. Add 2 cups water; bring to slow boil.
  5. Reduce to simmer. Whisk in gravy mix. Continue to cook until the mixture is just slightly more runny than desired.
  6. Add patties back to skillet. Cook 1 to 2 minutes each side or until desired doneness is achieved. Spoon gravy over top while cooking.
  7. Serve hot with a small spoon of gravy on top of patty. Extra gravy makes an excellent topping for mashed potatoes.
