- 1-1/2 lbs ground beef (80% or 73% lean recommended)
- 1 medium onion, chopped (yellow sweet recommended)
- 2 (0.87 oz/24 g) packages McCormick Brown Gravy Mix
- 2 to 2-1/2 cups water
- 1 to 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions:
- Hand mix Worchestershire sauce into ground beef. Form into patties; salt/pepper to taste. (I recommend at least a little salt.)
- In a medium or large skillet, cook patties to rare or medium rare. Remove and set aside.
- Add onions to meat drippings and caramelize. (I recommend adding a pinch or two of salt and black pepper to the onions.)
- Add 2 cups water; bring to slow boil.
- Reduce to simmer. Whisk in gravy mix. Continue to cook until the mixture is just slightly more runny than desired.
- Add patties back to skillet. Cook 1 to 2 minutes each side or until desired doneness is achieved. Spoon gravy over top while cooking.
- Serve hot with a small spoon of gravy on top of patty. Extra gravy makes an excellent topping for mashed potatoes.
