Chocolate Syrup

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 14 oz can evaporated milk (or 1-1/2 cups water and 2/3 cup powdered milk)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Mix well sugar, milk, salt, cocoa powder, butter, and cornstarch.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick.
  3. Stir in vanilla.

(Granny’s Note: For a thinner syrup, omit the cornstarch. This is good for ice cream. Serve warm or cold. If too thick, stir in warm water.)
